Theatre
- Central Studio is an
excellent small fringe-theatre type of venue just outside
Basingstoke town centre and comprising part of a local 6th-form
college. They run a good range of entertainments, some produced
in-house, many by touring companies, music (that jazz again,
world music and more), dance, mime, puppet, workshops and so
on. Box office (Haymarket) (01256)-465566.
- The Anvil,
Basingstoke's new concert hall is a superb venue of which we
are rightly very proud. Mostly classical oriented, The Anvil
also has a varied music/dance program, an art film program,
Sunday lunchtime jazz (with optional lunch) and so on. Box
office (01256)-844244.
- The
Haymarket, Basingstoke's `west-end' theatre. Mostly
traditional middle-of-the-road standards, but things are
picking up again. Put to good use by some local amateur groups.
Box office (01256)-465566.

- My (Gordon's) old haunt was the South London Theatre
in West Norwood, London. Many fond memories, though I so
very rarely get back.
